The cricket desk at work was invited to Chelsea legend Chopper Harris' Golf Day a few weeks ago.
Nothing knew being invited to something I hear you say, but it's who I ended up playing with that's noteworthy.
A friend and I were paired with Barry, a die hard Chelsea fan who attends most club-related events. It transpired at the 19th that Barry's partner worked at Downing Street for the Prime Minister, which was as close as we had got to knowing someone in government.
So when our football editor phoned me up to take a look at page 17 of the Daily Mirror a few weeks later, it felt like we had been involved in a classic bit of Fleet Street sleaze after spending the day with him.
For Barry was none other than the broken-hearted boyfriend of John Prescott's diary secretary, who the deputy PM was having an affair.
